The Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR) Technique for paddy cultivation requires 15-18 irrigation rounds instead of 25 to 27 irrigation rounds in the traditional method. According to a study by Punjab Agricultural University, DSR technique can help save 15% to 20% of water. Incentivized by the Punjab Government at 1500 rupees per acre, it can solve the problem of labor shortage and prevent the development of a hard crust by groundwater recharge. Minimum Support price would also be provided for alternate crops like maize, pulse, and bajra to encourage crop diversification.
